Harry Potter actress Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months after accumulating too many points on her license. The star, known for her role as Hermione Granger, was caught driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford last July. This latest offense, combined with nine existing points, resulted in an automatic driving ban.
The 35-year-old, who is currently a creative writing student at the University of Oxford, was ordered to pay a total of £1,044 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court. Watson did not attend the hearing, but her lawyer confirmed she was in a position to pay the fine.
In a strange coincidence, another Harry Potter actress, Zoe Wanamaker, also faced a similar fate on the very same day. Wanamaker, who played Madam Hooch, was also banned from driving for six months and fined £1,044 after being caught speeding. She was driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone in Newbury, and like Watson, already had nine points on her license.
This news comes as a new TV adaptation of the Harry Potter books is in production, featuring a new cast. The new series, produced by HBO, is expected to take a decade to complete.
